BMW has been seemingly working on 2017 BMW X2 since about 2011, but it has only been recently that there has been any news as to how the project is coming about. Here is a brief look at this new SUV crossover and its various features.
2017 BMW X2: Design and Infotainment
While 2017 BMW X2 is still under development, there has already been much information about its exteriors design. The X2 model will be a coupe version of 2017 BMW X1. It should be identical to the 2017 BMW X1 in terms of its front bumper. There is also going to be a sloping roofline along with a somewhat remodeled rear fascia. The first look of this vehicle suggests that it also has a shorter rear overhang. The wheelbase remains more or less the same. Many of the styling elements of BMW X2 remain the same as the X1 version. These include sleeker headlamps, a split grille, and prominent front fascia. The bumpers are most likely new and the rear windscreen and tailgate will be shorter.
Like the exteriors, the interiors of 2017 BMW X2 will also be quite similar to X1. A new dashboard will be added to it, along with a floating infotainment system and refined A/C vents. The standard features that are included in it are a 7-speaker audio system, cruise control and multifunctional leather-wrapped steering wheels. The seats will have high quality leather upholstery. Other features include a panoramic moonroof, an 8.8-inch display and a Harman Kardon 12-speaker sound system.
2017 BMW X2: Platform and Engines
The 2017 BMW X2 will be built on same UKL platform which is going to be used for X1, which means that it will have the same drivetrain that includes a gasoline 3-cylinder, a gasoline 4-cylinder, and a diesel 4-cylinder engines. The base models that are going to be available in Europe will be most likely fitted with a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine that can pack a performance of 136 horsepower. The engine is also going to be fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission as well as power FWD versions. The other gasoline engine will be a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder powertrain and will mostly come with 2 power outputs. The xDrive20i and sDrive20i will produce 192 horsepower, whereas the xDrive25i will produce 231 horsepower. The 2.0-liter diesel engine will generate 150 horsepower in sDrive18d, 231 horsepower in xDrive 25d and 190 horsepower in xDrive20d.
On the other hand, the only model that will be available in US will be the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine that can pack 228 horsepower along with 258 lb-feet. It will come with an 8-speed automatic transmission as well as an AWD system. This xDrive28i will most likely reach 60 mph within about 6.3 seconds.
2017 BMW X2: Price and Arrival
While it is still too early to comment on the price of this crossover SUV, it is estimated that certain models can be priced at around $37,000. This is taking into consideration the price of X1 xDrive28i which sits around $34,800. A fully equipped higher range model can come with a price tag of $50,000. 2017 BMW X2 will hit the markets sometime in 2017.
