Lexus RX is a luxury midsize crossover SUV sold by Lexus motors, the luxury division of Toyota since 1998. The car has its market presence through four generations and holds the title of only Lexus models to be manufactures outside japan. It has been the best-selling luxury SUV in US markets since its introduction and still holds that title. The first generation was a modest crossover between a SUV and a luxury sedan. The follow up generations were gradually evolved to fit in the luxury SUV segment. The 2017 Lexus RX 450h will launch as the 5th generation model with a longer wheelbase and new design upgrades.
2017 Lexus RX 450h: Redesign and Infotainment
The 2017 Lexus RX 450h features a redesigned exterior with a bigger front horizontal air intake grille divided into two rectangles and extended all the way down to form a compact front bumper, sharper LED headlamps, daytime LED running lights and fog lights. Straight body lines and new tail lamps also appear on this 5th generation model.
The car will be offered with a range of color options:, obsidian, satin cashmere metallic, nebula gray pearl, element white pearl, silver lining metallic, caviar, matador red mica, autumn shimmer and nightfall mica. The new RX 450h will ride on 2.74 meter long 18inch spoke alloy tires wheelbase and will be offered with an optional third row of seats.
The interiors will be available with a wider color selection scheme, new steering wheel, new linings, quality seat upholstery, full electronically adjustable seats, leather door panels, and new infotainment system attached with 15 speakers Mark Levinson sound system.
The 2017 Lexus RX 450h will be fitted with independent MacPherson struts with coil springs, gas pressurized shock absorber and stabilized bar. 12.9 inch ventilated front disc brakes and 13.3 inch solid rear disc brakes will take care of the car’s breaking assist systems.
Other features include four wheel power assisted disc brakes with four sensor, four channel antilock braking system and an upgraded 12.3 inch infotainment system equipped with Lexus remote touch controller, voice recognition, satellite radio, navigation facilities and Bluetooth connectivity.
2017 Lexus RX 450h: Powertrain Options
The standard offering on this new 2017 Lexus RX 450h will be 3.5-liter V6 variable valves timing with intelligence (VVTi) gasoline unit equipped with spark ignition, and coupled with two electric motors. The gasoline unit can produce 249 horsepower at 6000 rpm; and the electric motors deliver 167 horsepower at 4800 rpm. Together, the electric motor and the gasoline unit have a combined output of 299 horsepower at 317 Nm torque. This will provide with an acceleration of 0-100 kmph in 7.9 seconds and a maximum permissible speed limit of 200 kmph.
The 3.5 liter gasoline hybrid unit will be mated to a 6 speed automatic hybrid transmission (Toyota electronic continuously variable transmission). An estimated 6.5 l/100 km fuel economy will be obtained within city limits and about 6 l/100 km economy is estimated on highways. Though testing phases revealed approximately 10.2 l/100 km efficiency.
Price and Arrival
The 2017 Lexus RX 450h is expected to hit the markets by the end of 2016 or in early 2017, while the base price should be around $42,000.
